I support John McCain
Let me preface this post with a statement: I liked John McCain back in 2000. That was before I could vote. As a 15 year old, I thought that he presented the best picture of leadership for the country. So I’m a tad bit biased.
Anyway, I am proud to support John McCain; if I had a house, I would put a sign in my yard. I think that he is the most qualified and experienced of all of the candidates, both Republican and Democratic. His credentials are impressive and I think that his leadership style, bolstered by his military experience, is excellent and exactly what our country needs right now. I like his plans for taxes and Iraq.
I don’t agree with him on everything. I’d like to see a harder line on immigration, but I know that he is thinking about the battles that he can win; with a Democratic Senate and House, it is going to be hard to push that sort of agenda through.
I think one of my biggest draws to McCain is the fact that I am not a hard-line Republican. I am not one of those peole who would benefit greatly from Bush’s tax cuts, but I think that leaving Iraq on a timetable is just a stupid, foolish idea. I cannot understand how the senators and congressmen and women can sit at their desks in Washington D.C. and begin to second guess the military men whose shoulders look like constellations. I think McCain understands this; he will give Petreus the support he needs to do the job.
Anyway, I hope that Republicans can understand that in order to win this next election we don’t need a Ronald Reagan clone; we need a leader who can reach across the aisle and make things happen.
